(South Carolina) – State legislators have introduced a bill in the Senate that would exempt palmetto state gun owners from the federal decrees made by President Barack Obama earlier this week.

The bill would make the state’s unorganized militia exempt from all new federal regulations.  According to state law, South Carolina’s militia consists of:

“All able-bodied people over the age of 17 who are U.S. citizens residing in South Carolina and legally allowed to purchase a firearm, according to current state law.”

SC Guns across americaSponsored by state Sens. Tom Corbin, Tom Davis, Kevin Bryant and Lee Bright, the bill excludes members of the militia — meaning all state citizens who are at least 18 years old would be exempt from all federal gun rules passed after New Year’s Day.

There’s another factor bringing up the pressure on the federal government to back off.  South Carolina Guns across America has organized a rally to take place today at 12:00 noon outside the State House.

According to the group’s Facebook page, which has over 600 ‘likes’, Spartanburg Senator Lee Bright has committed to speak at the event.  Sonya Sasser South Carolina state director of Politichicks will also be speaking at the event.
