Jim DeMint’s mobile office event in the B-HP area has been canceled according to a member of the senator’s staff. The cancellation been confirmed by Seth Blanton, senior constituent service representative for the republican senator.
Scheduled for Dec. 13. The service to constituents was set to take place at town hall in Belton from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. However, with the recent announcement that Senator DeMint will resign in January to take over The Heritage Foundation, staffers have been trying to prepare for the transition.

Governor Nikki Haley is set to appoint a replacement to finish out the rest of DeMint’s term, which would have ended in 2014.
After ruling herself out as a possibility, the state’s chief executive has stated that she will not appoint a “placeholder” to the office.
“While there are some good arguments in favor of that approach I believe the better case is against it,”  Gov. Haley also added;  “I do not want to tie the next U.S. Senator for South Carolina’s hands regarding future office.”
